U.S. President Donald Trump now insists that the mineral deal should be "bigger and better".
The American television channel CBS News announced this, citing sources, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
It is noted that the Ukrainian side told American colleagues about its readiness to sign a document on mineral extraction a few days after the initial plans were thwarted due to the argument in the White House.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who participated in negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on this deal, in a comment to CBS News when asked whether the economic agreement remained relevant, replied that at that time it was not.
Several sources claim that the agreement has not yet been finalized and its terms may change.
One of the interlocutors familiar with the negotiations noted that Trump is now seeking a "bigger, better deal."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 2, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that a minerals agreement between the United States and Ukraine is not currently under consideration.
On March 1, Zelenskyy failed to answer when Ukraine and the U.S. would be able to sign a subsoil and rare earth minerals agreement.
On February 28, Zelenskyy said that the Ukraine-U.S. minerals agreement is not enough to end the full-scale war being waged by the aggressor country russia.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump was expected to announce his intention to sign a minerals agreement with Ukraine during an address to Congress.
