President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that eight European countries "positively" view the idea of participating in a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
The head of state said this on February 26 during a conversation with journalists, his words are quoted by Yevropeiska Pravda.
Zelenskyy was asked whether there is any development in the negotiations on the possible deployment of contingents of the armed forces of partner countries on the territory of Ukraine.
"I like that eight countries have joined, which already look at it more positively," the President replied.
According to him, we are talking about the Nordic-Baltic Eight — a regional cooperation format that includes Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland.
Zelenskyy added that representatives of these countries visited Kyiv the day before. Presumably, we are talking about the visit of the leaders of the above-mentioned states on February 24.
The President also emphasized that a possible peacekeeping mission depends on the actions of the United States, on what role Washington will play.
Recall, earlier today, on February 26, French Minister Eric Lombard stated that France, Germany and the United Kingdom, as well as a number of other European countries, are ready to send their troops to Ukraine to ensure compliance with a possible ceasefire between Ukraine and russia.
Earlier, we wrote that on February 18, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor country, russia, stated that moscow was against the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine.
And the day before, the head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that the deployment of peacekeepers would be a dubious guarantee of security for Ukraine.
