The aggressor country russia is categorically against the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent of European countries on the territory of Ukraine after a possible ceasefire or peace agreement is reached.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated this, his words are quoted by russian media.
According to him, russia has a negative attitude towards the idea of deploying European peacekeepers in Ukraine.
"And we have talked about this many times. Under whatever guise they are there, this is a step towards escalation, not de-escalation," said Grushko.
He added that russia will support the steps of European countries to resolve the conflict in the form of ceasing military support for Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, today, February 18, Latvian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said that it is necessary to send hundreds of thousands of peacekeepers to Ukraine to truly deter russia.
Yesterday, February 17, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his readiness to send British troops to Ukraine to support the ceasefire agreement.
On the same day, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that Stockholm would consider participating in a peacekeeping mission, the sending of which to Ukraine is being discussed in Europe.
And German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that it is too early to talk about sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. He added that he feels irritated by such questions, since Ukraine is still in the midst of a fierce war.
