German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Europe intends to continue to support Ukraine. He assured that Ukraine can be confident in European countries.
According to the French publication Le Monde, Scholz said this on the evening of February 17.
Scholz spoke out against the "forcing to peace imposed on Ukraine." Kyiv cannot accept "everything that is offered to it, under any conditions."
The Chancellor also made a statement on sending peacekeepers to Ukraine if a possible ceasefire is reached.
According to him, it is "too early" to talk about this. He also added that such questions from journalists are even "a little annoying," as he considers this topic "inappropriate."
"We are talking behind Ukraine's back, on the basis of an agreement that does not exist <...> The time for peace has not yet come, and Ukraine is still in the midst of a brutal war," Scholz said.
At the same time, he stressed that "there can be no division of responsibility" between Europe and the United States, urging Washington to act together with European capitals for the sake of collective security.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 16 it became known that French President Emmanuel Macron had convened a meeting with European leaders to discuss the actions of the U.S. presidential administration.
