Europe is ready to take the initiative to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said after an emergency meeting on Ukraine in Paris. Le Figaro reported this on Monday, February 17.
"Europe is ready and willing to strengthen itself, to take the initiative to provide security guarantees to Ukraine," Rutte stressed.
According to the NATO Secretary General, this is what he "took away" from the emergency meeting in Paris at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa said in a joint statement that Ukraine "deserves peace through strength" that respects its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to the politicians, Europe "fully assumes its share of military assistance to Ukraine."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 17, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Europe intends to continue to provide support to Ukraine.
Recall that on February 16, it became known that French President Emmanuel Macron had convened a meeting with European leaders to discuss the actions of the U.S. presidential administration.
