US suspends United for Ukraine refugee program

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the temporary suspension of the United for Ukraine (U4U) program for Ukrainians seeking asylum in the United States due to the war.

As reported by Voice of America with reference to the Service, this decision was made in connection with the executive order of the U.S. President dated January 20, 2025, entitled "Securing Our Borders".

"Due to the Jan. 20, 2025 Executive Order, Securing Our Borders, USCIS is pausing acceptance of Form I-134A, Online Request to be a Supporter and Declaration of Financial Support, until we review all categorical parole processes as required by that order," the agency said in a statement.

At the same time, the statement emphasizes that this is a temporary measure, and new information will be announced after the review of applications is completed.
