U.S. President Donald Trump may impose sanctions that will be devastating for the aggressor country of russia and its dictator vladimir putin.
Oleksandr Merezhko, a Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy and interparliamentary cooperation, has stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency.
"There is a certain reserve in terms of sanctions. This means that the potential for sanctions against Russia still exists. The goal should be, in my opinion, the complete isolation of the aggressor state - economic, political. When the United States begins to use sanctions against those who trade or buy gas and oil products from Russia, this will lead to extremely destructive consequences for the Russian economy and its ability to wage war. These are very merciless sanctions," he noted.
Merezhko called the possibility of new U.S. sanctions the main lever of Trump's influence on putin.
Merezhko called political pressure on Europe an important tool, because the U.S. can achieve not only the freezing of russian assets, but also their confiscation with subsequent transfer to Ukraine.
Merezhko also believes that providing Ukraine with modern weapons will become a powerful lever of influence on putin.
"This could make Putin's life unbearable. Imagine how Moscow residents will go to bomb shelters every day and hear the sounds of air raid sirens. Providing Ukraine with appropriate military capabilities will allow creating critical pressure on the aggressor," he said.
Separately, Merezhko mentioned the possibility of influencing oil prices.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, U.S. President Donald Trump may accelerate the overthrow of vladimir putin's dictatorial regime in russia.
