Russian dictator vladimir putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation and discussed how to establish ties with U.S. President Donald Trump, the prospects for a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine and moscow's support for Beijing's position on Taiwan, Reuters reported on Tuesday, January 21.
Xi Jinping and putin spoke for an hour and 35 minutes via video link about further deepening the strategic partnership between their countries.
"Xi Jinping and Putin demonstrated their readiness to build relations with the United States on a mutually beneficial, mutually respectful basis if the Trump team really shows interest in this. From our side, it was also noted that we are ready for a dialogue with the new U.S. administration on the Ukrainian conflict," kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.
At the same time, Ushakov emphasized that the video call between putin and Xi Jinping was planned even before Trump's inauguration. Xi Jinping also called for negotiations to end the war in Ukraine (russia's aggression against Ukraine - Ed.) and accused the United States of inciting the war by supplying weapons to Kyiv, writes Reuters.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 7, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he had spoken with Chinese leader Xi Jinping through his representatives, and that he believed in the possibility of further understanding with the Chinese leader.
On January 17, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation.
Recall that in July, Chinese leader Xi Jinping said that the earliest possible cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and the search for a political solution "meets the interests of all parties."
