Romania scrambled F-16s and detected traces of russian drone on its territory

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MApN) scrambled two fighter jets during the aggressor country russia's attack on Ukraine on the night of January 17 to monitor the situation.

Romania Journal reported this on Friday, January 17.

On Friday morning, russian forces attacked port infrastructure in Ukraine near the border with Romania in Tulcea county with drones. MApN's monitoring and surveillance systems recorded a violation of Romanian airspace, and from 1:35 a.m., two Romanian Air Force F-16s monitored the situation. At 3:30 a.m., the alarm was declared off at all facilities.

"The Ministry of Defense stated that the ministry's teams conducted field research and discovered "traces of a possible drone strike" outside the settlement of Plauru (between Ceatalchioi and Tudor Vladimirescu), near the border. The area is currently being guarded, and teams formed by specialists from the Ministry of Defense, the Romanian Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will collect evidence and conduct an investigation in accordance with procedures," the report said.

The Main Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) at around 01:46 a.m. called on the population to take shelter due to the possibility of objects falling from the airspace on the border territory of Romania and Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the morning of December 25, during the massive shelling of Ukraine, one of the russian missiles flew into Moldovan airspace, after which it flew in the sky over Romania.

At the same time, the Romanian Ministry of Defense did not confirm that a russian missile was in the country's airspace on December 25.

We also wrote that at the end of October this year, russian drones flew into Romania three times in a week.
