There are currently no expectations that Ukraine and the aggressor country of russia will be ready to sit down at the negotiating table to end the war, said White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby at a briefing.
His words were quoted by Ukrinform on Friday, January 10.
Kirby denied that the new sanctions against russia were introduced with a view to the possibility of peace talks in order to later lift the restrictions. According to him, the sanctions are not a "bargaining chip".
"This was not done with the expectation that it would become a bargaining chip that could be taken off the table when Ukraine wants to sit down at this negotiating table. There are currently no expectations that either side is ready for negotiations," Kirby emphasized.
The coordinator noted that the new sanctions against the russian federation were introduced in view of the situation in the energy sector, and were postponed to prevent an increase in energy prices in the United States.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 2, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Mykhailo Podoliak stated that the aggressor country of russia has not been forced to pay a high enough price for the war against Ukraine, so there can be no peace talks.
On January 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that negotiations on ending the war between the aggressor country of russia and Ukraine should begin with US President Donald Trump and European leaders.
On January 9, the future special representative of US President-elect Donald Trump for Ukraine and russia, Keith Kellogg, stated that within 100 days after the inauguration, he would try to find a fair and reliable solution to end the war of the aggressor country of russia against Ukraine.
