US President-elect Donald Trump said that russian dictator vladimir putin has expressed a desire to meet with him, and preparations for such a meeting are already underway.
He announced this during his speech to Republican governors in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, Reuters writes.
"He (putin - ed.) wants to meet, and we will organize it. President Xi, we have talked a lot. And we have scheduled a lot of meetings with a lot of people. Some have already arrived," Trump said.
At the same time, a number of media outlets noted that Trump's words can be interpreted as: "and we are negotiating about it." He did not specify the dates of the meeting with putin and other world leaders, but hinted that such negotiations could take place after January 20, the day of his inauguration.
When asked about the format of possible meetings with putin or Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump replied that this was still being discussed. Speaking about the war in Ukraine, he noted:
"President putin wants to meet. He has even said it publicly, and we have to end this war. This is a bloody mess."
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 9, Trump confirmed that he had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the possibility of ending the war.
On December 18, Kellogg said that the Ukrainian and russian sides were ready to hold talks.
On January 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that negotiations on ending the war between the aggressor country of russia and Ukraine should begin with US President Donald Trump and European leaders.
