Employers will be able to read employees' correspondence - new Labor Code draft

The draft of the new Labor Code developed by the Ministry of Economy provides for permission for employers to check employees' work correspondence.

This is stated in the text of the bill "On the Labor Code", Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The document introduces monitoring of an employee's work correspondence and other data.

The employer may monitor an employee's work correspondence or documents (files) created on technical (electronic) devices used by the employee to perform work duties.

Checking correspondence is considered an extreme form of employer control over an employee and may be used only if alternative methods of control over an employee are impossible or ineffective.

The employer must inform the employee about the introduction of monitoring and justify the objective necessity of its implementation.

The implementation of such monitoring must not violate the employee's right to personal and family life.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the draft of the new Labor Code developed by the Ministry of Economy provides for permission for employers to install video surveillance of their employees.
