There is no need to raise electricity tariff to UAH 6 - MP

In 2024, the electricity tariff increased to UAH 4.32 per kilowatt-hour. There is no need to raise the tariff to UAH 6 or UAH 6.30 - the current tariff is enough to cover the cost, and even make a small profit.

This was reported by MP, member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services Serhii Nahorniak on the air of a telethon.

Thus, regarding the probable increase in the price of electricity after the heating season to UAH 6-6.30 per kilowatt named by experts, Nahorniak noted that there is no need for this.

"I will say this, that there is absolutely no need for this. Because after raising the tariff to UAH 4.32, our two state-owned energy companies - Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo - have quite good financial indicators," he said.

According to him, they are partially under-receiving profit, because the market price for electricity reaches UAH 7-8 per kilowatt of electricity - companies sell it on the market for private companies, state-owned companies, and sell it to the population for UAH 4.32.

"Nevertheless, this money is absolutely enough to cover both the cost and even make a small profit," Nahorniak added.

We will remind, the Cabinet of Ministers increased the electricity tariff for the population by 63.6%, from UAH 2.64 to UAH 4.32 per kWh. The new tariff will be valid from June 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Oleksii Kucherenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the All-Ukrainian Union Batkivshchyna faction, first deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy, believes that the government will try to raise the price of electricity for the population after the heating season.
