A member of the Verkhovna Rada from the faction All-Ukrainian Union Batkivshchyna, the first deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy, Oleksii Kucherenko, believes that the government will try to raise the price of electricity for the population after the heating season.
He announced this on the air of one of the TV channels, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"I think that there will be attempts by the government to raise electricity price after the heating season. But I can say one thing as the head of the investigative commission - we are studying the validity of this tariff. I can already say that the government has no justification for the calculations when it was raised to UAH 4.32 from June 1," the MP said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers increased the electricity tariff for the population by 63.6%, from UAH 2.64 to UAH 4.32 per kWh from June.
The new tariff is valid from June 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025.
During the heating period (from October 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025), a preferential tariff is provided for consumers who use electric heating installations at the level of UAH 2.64 kWh (if they consume up to 2,000 kWh of electricity per month during this period).
