The Washington Post names number of Ukrainians mobilized in 2024

For the entire year of 2024, Ukraine managed to mobilize about 200,000 recruits into the army.

The Washington Post writes about this with reference to unnamed Ukrainian and Western officials.

According to sources, the military complains about a "slow and disjointed mobilization campaign." Allegedly, Ukraine began mobilization too late, when the units were already understaffed and exhausted. In particular, they began mobilizing prisoners too late.

The unnamed sources also claim that "people are no longer volunteering to fight but are being forced to," and Ukraine allegedly loses more in defense than in the offensive.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Lytvynenko said that 1,050,000 citizens have been called up to the Defense Forces of Ukraine, and it is planned to call up another 160,000 people, which will allow the units to be staffed by up to 85%.

Territorial recruitment and social support centers have refused to forcibly mobilize men aged 50 and older. They can still be called up, but this concerns holders of specialties that are in short supply for the army.

Recall that the earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that summonses are sent primarily to those Ukrainians who do not work and do not pay taxes.
