Poland to build road to russian Kaliningrad to move troops faster – FT

Poland will soon begin construction of a new road that will lead to the russian city of Kaliningrad. This will allow for a much faster transfer of troops to strengthen security.

The Financial Times reported this, citing a statement by Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Interior and Administration of Poland Maciej Duszczyk on Monday, December 30.

Duszczyk noted that by next summer, Poland will build a wall on the border with Belarus to stop the influx of migrants, whom the aggressor country russia uses as an element of hybrid warfare. According to him, the installation of additional protective facilities along the 400-kilometer eastern border should be completed by mid-2025.

"In the coming months, Warsaw will also build a new road to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, which will allow Polish troops to respond more quickly to possible security violations," Duszczyk said.

Poland has also called on European partners to contribute to a project called "Eastern Shield" to protect Europe from further russian aggression. The Polish government has already allocated PLN 10 billion for new air surveillance systems, anti-tank barriers and trenches.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 17, the Financial Times reported that NATO countries have begun preparing roads and infrastructure for the transfer of military equipment in the event of a full-scale conflict with russia.

Bulgaria will invest EUR 6 billion in infrastructure that will help deploy NATO forces on the eastern flank if necessary.

In June, it became known that the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) is developing numerous "land corridors" to transfer American troops and armored vehicles to the front line in the event of a major European ground war with russia.
