Navy names how many sea mines drifting in Black Sea

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the russians have been mining the Black Sea waters, and it is unknown how many sea mines may be drifting there now. The Navy admits that their number may reach four hundred.

This was stated on the air of Suspilne. Novyny by the spokesman for the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk.

"The last announced figure was official - it is four hundred mines, but in any case, until we conduct a full-scale, complete demining operation, no one will be able to provide accurate data. And the problem is that the sea is an element, accordingly, these are mine hazards, they can change their location, they can be dynamic," Pletenchuk said.

He added that after the end of hostilities, the Black Sea will have to be actively cleaned and demined. For this purpose, a separate division has been created within the Navy, which will include at least 5 mine-clearing ships. The personnel are already actively planning and preparing the demining operation.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 28, 2023, a civilian ship under the Panamanian flag was blown up by a mine in the Black Sea. It was moving with a cargo of grain to one of the Danube ports.

As a reminder, within the framework of the Naval Coalition, Ukraine will receive two Sandown minesweepers from the United Kingdom.
