Production of Japanese pickup trucks to begin in Ukraine - Economy Ministry

A project to manufacture Japanese pickup trucks using SKD technology will be launched in Ukraine.

This is announced in a statement by the Ministry of Economy, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

It is noted that this is a joint project of several Ukrainian manufacturers and a Japanese engineering company.

"Together with Ukrainian partners, the Japanese company plans to start production of pickup trucks using CKD technology, and in the future they plan to switch to CKD production. This is a good signal to other Japanese investors that the localization of production of their products in Ukraine is a mutually beneficial cooperation," First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyrydenko said during a business forum organized by the Japan External Trade Organization.

Svyrydenko noted that more than 40 key Japanese companies currently operate in Ukraine.

She emphasized that the government offers support in the form of compensation for projects with significant investments and tax and customs benefits within industrial parks, and Ukraine, together with partners, is developing insurance instruments against military risks.

Svyrydenko noted that Japan has allocated approximately EUR 1.25 billion through NEXI initiatives, providing reliable financial support for Japanese companies that are ready to invest and work in the Ukrainian market.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November, the State Budget of Ukraine has received USD 235 million in concessional financing from the Government of Japan as part of the World Bank's new systemic projects "Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Enterprise" (RISE) and "Lifting Education Access and Resilience in Times of Need in Ukraine" (LEARN).

In October, it became known that Japan will provide Ukraine with a loan of just over USD 3 billion within the framework of the agreements of the G7 countries. It will be repaid from the proceeds of the frozen assets of the aggressor country, russia.

In June, Ukraine and Japan signed a security agreement that provides for the provision of USD 4.5 billion in aid in 2024 and support for Ukraine throughout the entire 10-year term of the agreement.
