Ukraine receives USD 235 million from Japan as part of World Bank LEARN and RISE projects

The State Budget of Ukraine has received USD 235 million in concessional financing from the Government of Japan as part of the World Bank's new systemic projects "Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Enterprise" (RISE) and "Lifting Education Access and Resilience in Times of Need in Ukraine" (LEARN).

This was announced in a statement by the Ministry of Finance, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Within the framework of RISE, a USD 130 million loan was received with the support of Japanese financial resources.

The project is aimed at solving critical problems that hinder the resilience, growth and sustainable development of the private sector.

The USD 105 million in Japanese funds received under the LEARN project are the result of the Government of Ukraine's implementation of measures to ensure safe in-person learning in schools by providing subventions for shelters and school buses in 2024.

The key goal of the program is to improve the educational process in Ukraine under martial law by creating safe and comfortable conditions for educators and students.

The projects are implemented using the Program-for-results - PforR financial instrument.

Thus, the funds are the result of Ukraine achieving some of the criteria.

By the end of 2024, Ukraine expects to attract another USD 120 million and USD 95 million under RISE and LEARN, respectively.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November, Ukraine received a USD 1.35 billion grant from the United States.
