Two russian oil tankers were destroyed due to the "negligence and carelessness" of the russians, and not because of a storm.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, stated this in a commentary on the Kyiv 24 channel.
"These vessels are actually river vessels. Their task is to pull this fuel oil and oil products from the Volga and reload them onto other vessels somewhere in the sea. They can theoretically go out to sea, but under different conditions," he stressed.
According to Pletenchuk, the wave height and wind speed observed today near Kerch exceeded the regulatory indicators for which both tankers were originally designed.
"In addition, we should not forget that these are 50+ year old vessels. For such an age... these vessels should in principle be decommissioned. They have broken everything they could in principle," says the military man.
Recall, earlier on December 15, it became known that in the Kerch Strait, which connects the Azov and Black Seas, an accident occurred with two russian tankers – Volgoneft-139 and Volgoneft-212.
Later, videos appeared on social networks, in which you can see that both tankers were literally chopped up by waves.
Greenpeace stated that this incident could lead to the spill of 4,000 tons of fuel oil, as well as other petroleum products. This threatens the region with an environmental disaster, the consequences of which will be observed for more than one year.
