The recent statement by russian dictator vladimir putin about the intention to deploy new ballistic missiles Oreshnik in Belarus is a new "horror story" of the Kremlin directed against Western countries.
This was stated by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) at the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Andrii Kovalenko.
According to him, the main goal of the story with Oreshnik is to raise the stakes by propagating fear against Western countries.
Kovalenko recalled that the deployment of russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus did not work in terms of information. Therefore, the Kremlin decided to use Oreshnik to intimidate the West, which not so long ago allowed Ukraine to strike at russian territory.
"The deployment in Belarus will be promoted purely for information purposes under the narrative of the Oreshnik approaching NATO borders in order to change public sentiment in Europe," Kovalenko wrote.
The head of the CCD noted that the russians are trying to hide the fact that one of the two Oreshnik launches ended in failure.
As for the deployment of missiles in Belarus, Kovalenko continued, this does not increase the danger for Ukraine in any way. This is due to the fact that there is no difference from where the missile will fly - from the Kapustin Yar test site or from Belarusian territory.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 6, russian dictator vladimir putin said that missile systems with Oreshnik missiles will be deployed in Belarus.
We will remind, earlier the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said that it is known about a new missile, with which the russians first struck Ukraine on November 21, 2024.
We also wrote that journalists were shown the wreckage of the Oreshnik missile found at the hit site in Dnipro.
