Ukraine is conducting an expert assessment of the remains of bodies that the aggressor country of russia transferred during the latest repatriation measures. This is necessary to establish whether they really belong to Ukrainian servicemen who may have been killed during the crash of the russian Il-76 military transport plane in the Belgorod Oblast in January.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War on Monday, December 9.

The Headquarters noted that russia announced the transfer to Ukraine of the remains of Ukrainian defenders allegedly killed in the Il-76 plane crash.

"During the latest repatriation measures, the remains of the deceased were transferred to Ukraine from the aggressor state, which require additional identification. As of now, expert institutions are establishing within the framework of criminal proceedings whether the remains of these persons really belong to Ukrainian servicemen," the statement said.
