Gerasimov calls chair of US Joint Chiefs of Staff - NYT

Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown had a telephone conversation that took place last week.

The New York Times reports.

This rare call took place the day before Thanksgiving and six days after russia launched the Oreshnik ballistic missile. Gerasimov explained that the launch was planned before the US allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS.

According to Captain Jereal Dorsey, Brown's press secretary, the conversation touched on issues of global and regional security, in particular the war in Ukraine.

Recall that on the morning of November 21, the russian occupiers carried out a missile strike on Dnipro using an intercontinental ballistic missile. It dropped several dozen warheads on the city, which did not cause significant damage.

That evening, russian dictator putin announced that a new ballistic missile called the Oreshnik had allegedly been used to strike Dnipro.

Meanwhile, russia can only launch medium-range missiles from the Kapustin Yar range in the Astrakhan Oblast and the Plesetsk range in the Arkhangelsk Oblast.
