Biden asks Congress for USD 24 billion in aid for Ukraine - media

US President Joe Biden has asked Congress for an additional USD 24 billion to support Ukraine, Politico reports.

Of this amount, USD 16 billion is planned to be used to restore US arms stocks transferred to Kyiv, and USD 8 billion is planned to be used for Pentagon contracts with companies to supply weapons to Ukraine. The White House has suggested including this initiative in Congress's decision to avert a shutdown, expected next month. However, some Republicans have already criticized the request.

"Joe Biden just gave away 4.7 billion in your taxpayer dollars by unilaterally “forgiving” loans to Ukraine. Congress must not give him a free gift to further sabotage President Trump’s peace negotiations on the way out the door. Any Biden funding demands should be DOA," Senator Mike Lee wrote on the X social network.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early November, Politico reported that the Biden administration intends to urgently transfer USD 6 billion to Ukraine, which is left over from funds previously allocated for military aid to Ukraine.

At the same time, in the middle of this month, The Hill reported, citing a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Tim Kaine, that Washington may accept additional funding for Ukraine before the Trump administration takes office.

And the US Department of Defense stated that Ukraine will receive a new package of military aid almost every week. In this way, Washington wants to have time to transfer military assets for the remaining funds before the end of Biden's term.

Biden also promised to do everything possible to ensure that Ukraine has the opportunity to continue fighting in 2025.
