The team of US President-elect Donald Trump is considering the possibility of holding direct talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Reuters reported this, citing its own sources.
The agency's interlocutors said that Trump's team believes that direct talks between the US President-elect and the North Korean leader could reduce the risk of armed conflict.
According to them, some members of Trump's team believe that Trump's direct approach, based on existing relations, will most likely help "melt the ice" in relations with Kim Jong Un.
According to the sources, political discussions are fluid in nature, and the President-elect has not yet made a final decision.
It is also not yet clear what measures Kim may offer Trump in response.
The agency recalled that during his previous presidency, Trump held three meetings with Kim Jong Un - in Singapore, Hanoi and on the Korean border, the first time in the entire time of the current US President's stay in this country.
Their diplomacy did not bring any concrete results, although Trump called their talks "amorousness".
The US called on North Korea to abandon nuclear weapons, and Kim demanded the complete lifting of sanctions, and then made new threats.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 20, Bloomberg Agency wrote, citing its own sources, that in the near future US President-elect Trump will hold talks with russian dictator vladimir putin. The conversation will allegedly concern Ukraine.
Recall, the day before, columnist David Ignatius wrote for The Washington Post that European leaders were pleasantly surprised by the first telephone conversations with Trump.
