US President-elect Donald Trump will hold talks with russian dictator vladimir putin soon. Joe Biden's decision on ATACMS is strengthening Trump's position and forcing putin to negotiate for real, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, November 20.
Biden did his successor a "tactical favor" ahead of the talks with putin, which are due to take place in the near future. The US President has authorized Ukraine to strike russian territory with long-range missiles in response to russia's escalation, and has somewhat strengthened Ukraine's ability to resist an "imminent russian invasion," the agency wrote.
"Donald Trump will soon hold talks with vladimir putin about Ukraine. And Joe Biden has just given Trump another bargaining chip. The move saves Trump from having to escalate later and instead gives him chips to bargain again next year. Biden gives Trump options in the form of Ukraine's advantages, which will become part of future peace talks," the article says.
The russian dictator most likely understands this, as he hopes that Trump will sacrifice a weakened Ukraine to divide the country into spheres of influence, Bloomberg notes. By strengthening Ukraine, Biden "helps Trump force putin to negotiate for real, not for show," the expert believes.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that under the administration of newly elected US President Donald Trump, the war in Ukraine would end faster.
On November 12, President of Finland Alexander Stubb said that Trump wants peace talks and an early end to the war in Ukraine.
As a reminder, on November 8, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that the United States, after the election of Trump, allegedly wants to "exit" the russian-Ukrainian war.
