White House for first time officially announces AFU’s permission to strike Kursk Oblast with ATACMS missiles

The United States has officially announced for the first time that the Ukrainian Defense Forces can use American ATACMS ballistic missiles to strike the territory of the aggressor country, russia.

The White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby has stated this, as quoted by Business Insider correspondent Jake Epstein on X.

According to Epstein, Kirby told the press at a briefing that the Ukrainian army used missiles provided by the United States to strike russian army facilities in and around the Kursk Oblast.

"They are able to use ATACMS to defend themselves in an immediate-need basis and right now, understandably, that's taken place in and around Kursk," Kirby said.

He added that the United States has changed leadership and has given the Ukrainians an instruction that they can use ATACMS missiles to strike specific targets.

Ukraine began using ATACMS missiles to strike russia

Previously, the American publication The New York Times wrote that the current U.S. President Joseph Biden had allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles to attack targets in russia.

There was no official announcement about the possibility of the Ukrainian military hitting russian territory with ATACMS missiles after that.

Recall that on the night of November 18-19, a series of explosions thundered in the Bryansk Oblast of the russian federation. ATACMS missiles hit the arsenal of the russian army near the city of Karachev.

Later, the russian Ministry of Defense stated that six ATACMS missiles were allegedly fired at the arsenal in Karachev. Five of them were allegedly shot down, and the sixth was damaged.

However, on the evening of November 19, the United States stated that moscow had lied about the number of ATACMS missiles fired by the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the Bryansk Oblast. It also turned out that the russians had overstated the number of missiles shot down.
