US says that russian air defense was able to shoot down only two ATACMS missiles over Bryansk Oblast

The Ukrainian Defense Forces used eight American ATACMS ballistic missiles to strike an ammunition depot in the Bryansk Oblast. Earlier, the occupiers said that there were only six such missiles.

Idris Ali, a Reuters correspondent at the US Department of Defense, wrote about this on X (formerly Twitter) on November 19.

According to him, an unnamed US Department of Defense official confirmed that the strike on the russian army facility in the Bryansk Oblast was carried out using eight ATACMS missiles.

The same official emphasized that this was the first case of Ukraine using ATACMS missiles on russian territory.

"Another official said that russia was able to intercept two of the eight missiles launched by the Ukrainians (and not five of the six, as the russians claim)," the correspondent wrote.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 17, the American newspaper The New York Times wrote that the current US President Joseph Biden allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles to strike russia.

On the night of November 18-19, a series of explosions thundered in the town of Karachev, Bryansk Oblast. A large arsenal of ammunition of the russian army was hit.

The russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly launched six ATACMS missiles. Five of them were allegedly shot down by air defense systems.
