American and European officials have offered the current U.S. President Joseph Biden to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons that Kyiv could use as an instant and powerful deterrent.
This is stated in the material of the American publication The New York Times.
According to the NYT, a number of officials in the U.S. and European countries are discussing deterrence as a possible security guarantee for Ukraine.
As part of this, Ukraine could accumulate a powerful arsenal of conventional weapons, sufficient to launch a retaliatory strike if russia decides to violate the ceasefire.
At the same time, some officials have offered President Biden to return nuclear weapons to Ukraine that were taken from it after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Possession of such weapons would become an instant and huge deterrent for Ukraine.
According to the publication, the officials who proposed this are aware that such a step would be extremely difficult to implement and would have serious consequences.
As the Ukrainian News agency reported, in early November, The Times allegedly wrote, citing officials from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, that Kyiv is capable of quickly creating nuclear weapons if the U.S. decides to reduce aid to the country.
Recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that the country has no plans to create nuclear weapons.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the statements of a number of media outlets that Ukraine is allegedly going to restore its nuclear arsenal nonsense.
