Pentagon to change nuclear deterrence strategy. Details

The United States is ready to expand and modernize its nuclear arsenal to provide deterrence in response to growing challenges, the Pentagon website says.

Richard C. Johnson, deputy assistant secretary of defense for nuclear and countering weapons of mass destruction policy, said: "We remain confident in current American forces and doctrine. But if adjustments to nuclear forces are needed, we must be prepared to make them quickly."

The Pentagon is already working to modernize the B61-13 nuclear bomb and increase the readiness of Ohio-class submarines.

Johnson stressed: " We are now in a world where we're facing multiple nuclear competitors, multiple states that are growing, diversifying and modernizing their nuclear arsenals and also, unfortunately, prioritizing the role that nuclear weapons play in their national security strategies."

A recent Pentagon report to Congress outlined a new strategy for the use of U.S. nuclear weapons, which takes into account the need to simultaneously deter multiple adversaries. The document also stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with allies and coordination to strengthen global security.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 21, the Air Forces informed that in the morning the occupiers launched an intercontinental ballistic missile, a Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile, and 7 Kh-101 cruise missiles over Dnipro.

On November 21, Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said that russian dictator vladimir putin was trying to raise the stakes by launching an intercontinental missile at Ukraine.

And putin said that the russians had tested a new hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile, the Oreshnik, in response to attacks by Western weapons on the Bryansk and Kursk Oblasts.
