Rada allows not to suspend service for servicemen who voluntarily left military unit

The Verkhovna Rada has allowed not to suspend service for servicemen who voluntarily left a military unit or place of service or deserted.

Iryna Herashchenko, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, announced this on her Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

A total of 253 parliamentarians voted for the adoption of bill No. 12095 as a whole, with a minimum of 226 required.

It is proposed that during martial law, military service for servicemen who voluntarily left a military unit or place of service or deserted for the first time, and voluntarily arrived at the place of service and expressed their willingness to continue military service, military service and the validity of the contract continue.

For them, cash payments and the provision of food, material, other types of support, benefits and social guarantees are resumed.

The military will have this opportunity only until the end of 2024.

The explanatory note states that currently military service is suspended for servicemen who have voluntarily left a military unit or place of service, deserted or voluntarily surrendered to captivity, unless otherwise specified by law, and the start of the suspension of military service is the day the relevant information is entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations.

It is indicated that under current legislation, the continuation of military service for such servicemen during martial law is possible only if the court has passed an acquittal that has entered into legal force, the criminal proceedings have been closed, or the court has issued a ruling on the closure of criminal proceedings and exemption from criminal liability.

It is proposed to provide the opportunity for servicemen to continue military service after voluntarily leaving a military unit or place of service.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Rada has exempted servicemen from criminal liability for the first voluntary leaving of a military unit or desertion for the period of war.

Earlier, the Rada allowed the demobilization of half-brothers of deceased and missing servicemen.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the possibility of lowering the mobilization age.
