Zelenskyy names prerequisites for negotiations with russia

Before conducting any negotiations, Ukraine should be strengthened and an open and honest policy should be pursued in relation to it.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with representatives of the leading mass media of the Northern European countries on Wednesday, October 30.

The President said that first Ukraine needs geopolitical strengthening, as proposed by the Victory Plan, which means an invitation to the North Atlantic Alliance. According to Zelenskyy, some partners are afraid to even talk about it.

"If they are simply afraid to even talk about it, then what kind of negotiations can there be with russia? Whose side will the partners be on during such a meeting? It is very dangerous for us. I do not see full support for the future of Ukraine. And we are talking about our security. Even not about membership (in NATO, - ed.), but about the invitation. About the package - deploy it in Ukraine and tell the russians, without any secrets, what you have given us," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Zelenskyy called the first point the strengthening of Ukraine before any negotiations, and the second - to be completely honest and "not to play games" behind Ukraine's back and without Ukraine with the same russians. The President emphasized that he is open to discussions with the countries of the Global South and the expansion of Ukraine's plan, but he has no answer to such a proposal. In November, the Plan will be fully ready: "And if they want to invite putin, let them, but there is one important thing - he does not know what he will do after this war," Zelenskyy said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 27, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, said that in order to start negotiations, it is necessary to return to the situation that existed before February 24, 2022.

On October 23, Zelenskyy said that a mutual cessation of strikes on energy infrastructure facilities could be the first step on the way to ending the hot phase of the russian-Ukrainian war.
