South Korea can supply 155-mm shells to Ukraine due to North Korean troops in russia - media

South Korea is considering the possibility of supplying Ukraine with 155-mm artillery shells in response to the involvement of North Korean forces in russia.

This was reported by the publication Donga with references to sources in the South Korean government.

President Yoon Suk Yeol discussed the situation regarding North Korean soldiers in the russian federation with the Prime Minister of Canada.

A government source said in a media comment that "North Korea has sent a large number of troops, and there is a consensus that we must also play a responsible role in the international community. Until recently, Ukraine has also consistently requested support for 155 mm artillery shells."

Also, another source in the government added that the final decision on such supplies should be taken by the National Security Council. There will be further discussions on whether the 155mm artillery shells will be provided in a roundabout way via the United States or directly transferred to Ukraine.

It is noted that "If we support Ukraine with lethal weapons, the greatest concern is the possibility that russia will use this as an excuse to openly transfer intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) relaunch technology to North Korea. At the same time, this is directly related to the security of the Korean Peninsula."

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 24, the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that the first North Korean soldiers had already arrived in the Kursk Oblast.

A South Korean delegation will visit Ukraine this week to share information about North Korea sending troops to russia.
