NATO confirms deployment of North Korean troops in russian Kursk Oblast

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte officially confirmed the deployment of North Korean troops in russia's Kursk Oblast and, on behalf of the Alliance, called on russia and the DPRK to immediately stop these actions.

This is announced in a statement dated October 28, published on the NATO website.

"Today I can confirm that North Korean troops have been sent to russia, and that North Korean military units have been deployed in the Kursk Oblast. The deployment of North Korean troops means: first, a significant escalation of the DPRK's ongoing involvement in russia's illegal war. Second, another violation of UN Security Council resolutions. And thirdly, the dangerous expansion of the russian war. NATO is calling on russia and the DPRK to immediately stop these actions," the statement said.

The Secretary General of NATO emphasized that the deepening of military cooperation between russia and North Korea is a threat to both Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security. He reminded that the DPRK has already supplied russia with millions of ammunition and ballistic missiles, and in return received from putin military technology and other support to circumvent international sanctions.

In addition, Rutte called the deployment of North Korean troops in Kursk a sign of the growing desperation of russian leader vladimir putin. The Secretary General pointed out that russia has already lost 600,000 soldiers in the war, and putin "is unable to continue his offensive against Ukraine without foreign support."

"NATO member countries will continue to support a free and democratic Ukraine, because Ukraine's security is our security," he added.

He informed that today, October 28, NATO discussed the need for further strengthening of military support to Ukraine.

"We are actively consulting in the Alliance, with Ukraine and with our Indo-Pacific partners regarding these events and continue to closely monitor the situation. Later today I have scheduled calls with the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon and with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Umerov," Rutte said in conclusion statements.

At the same time, the Pentagon said that the United States of America will not impose new restrictions on Ukraine's use of American weapons if North Korea enters the war.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on partners to put more pressure on russia and support Ukraine in connection with the likely entry into the war against Ukraine of the North Korean military in the coming days.
