The Pentagon said that the United States of America will not impose new restrictions on Ukraine's use of American weapons if North Korea enters the war.
This was stated by the US Department of Defense against the background of NATO's announcement about the deployment of North Korean military units in the Kursk Oblast of russia, Reuters reports.
So, according to Pentagon estimates, 10,000 North Korean troops have been deployed in eastern russia for exercises, compared to an estimate of 3,000 troops made last Wednesday.
"Some of these soldiers have already moved closer to Ukraine, and we are increasingly concerned that russia intends to use these soldiers in hostilities or to support combat operations against Ukrainian forces in russia's Kursk Oblast near the border with Ukraine," Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said.
It is recalled that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed earlier on Monday that military units from North Korea were deployed in the Kursk Oblast of russia, where the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been ongoing since the summer.
The Pentagon spokeswoman herself refused to confirm the presence of North Korean troops in Kursk.
"It is quite likely that they are moving in that direction, towards Kursk. But I don't have more detailed information yet," Singh said.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier the White House adviser on communications in the field of national security, John Kirby, said that some of the North Korean troops that have arrived in russia may be deployed in the Kursk Oblast, but the purpose of such actions is unknown to the United States.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on partners to put more pressure on russia and support Ukraine in connection with the likely entry into the war against Ukraine of the North Korean military in the coming days.
Meanwhile, North Korea's Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Jong Gyu said on October 25 that if "rumors" about sending North Korean troops to russia are true, then such an action, he said, complies with the norms of international law.
