White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby said that some of the North Korean troops that have arrived in russia may be deployed in the Kursk Oblast, but the purpose of such actions is unknown to the United States.

"We believe that it is certainly possible, and I’d just go so far as to say perhaps even likely, that at least some of these North Korean troops could be deployed to the Kursk area. But in what capacity, for what purpose, that still remains unclear," Kirby said at a briefing on October 25.
At the same time, earlier in an interview directly with the publication, Kirby said that the U.S. does not know how North Korean soldiers will be used.
"We know that there are at least several thousand North Korean soldiers at what appear to be three military training bases in eastern Russia. What exactly are they being trained for, we don't know, whether and how they will be involved in this war against Ukraine we also don't know,” informed Kirby.
The publication notes that, in general, in the U.S., the participation of North Korean troops is being talked about as a "step of desperation on the part of the Kremlin." Also, according to Kirby, putin's request for help in the form of several thousand soldiers to the DPRK and military aid to Iran indicates the weakness of the russian leader.
"Obviously, he's under a lot of military pressure. We know he's losing 1,200 soldiers a day. During the time he's been fighting in Ukraine, he's suffered over 530,000 casualties. So he's clearly under pressure, and he doesn't want to be honest with the Russian people about what they're doing, what they're losing, and how bloody and legitimate this war was against their own armed forces," Kirby explained.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, meanwhile, the russian occupiers are preparing for the reception and distribution of North Korean servicemen. It is planned that for every 30 foreign soldiers, 1 translator will be attached, as well as 3 soldiers of the russian armed forces.
