Cabinet approves mutual guarantees of quality of military products with Turkey

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a memorandum with Turkey on mutual guarantees of the quality of military products.

This was announced by the Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The Memorandum of understanding between the governments of Ukraine and Turkey regarding the mutual acceptance of the state guarantee of the quality of defense goods, works and services was signed on March 8, 2024 in Istanbul.

The Memorandum establishes a mechanism for mutual recognition of systems for ensuring the quality of defense products between countries and aims to strengthen the potential of the defense industry of both countries. The document expands the scope of military-technical cooperation launched in 2020.

"I welcome the Government's decision to approve the Memorandum of Understanding with our strategic partner. The implementation of the agreements will ensure the application of uniform NATO Allied Quality Assurance Publications (AQAP) in the development and procurement of defense products. This significantly brings Ukraine and Turkey closer together, and also allows expanding the scope of the Alliance's standards for in the direction of military-industrial cooperation," Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said.

The agreement provides for mutual quality control at all stages of production of defense products, including:

analysis of risks associated with the execution of contracts;

planning of state quality guarantees;

monitoring of production processes;

the supplier's compliance with the terms of the contracts that contain the provisions of the AQAP.

Special attention is paid to the protection of confidential information and intellectual property rights.

The Memorandum is concluded for five years with the possibility of automatic extension for the next five-year periods.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, during his visit to Turkey on March 8, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited shipyards in Istanbul where corvettes for the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are being built.

In March, Ukraine and Turkey signed an agreement on the creation of a system of electronic exchange of preliminary information on goods and vehicles moving between the countries.
