The probability of ending the war in Ukraine in a short time is very high, said the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, before his trip to the European Union (EU) summit in Brussels. His words were quoted by the news portal Teraz on Wednesday, October 16.
Fico noted that he expects progress in the settlement of the war, as well as the visit of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the meeting of the European Council in Brussels.
"The probability of ending the war in Ukraine in a short time is very high. I expect that tomorrow it will be possible to hint at something, because the topic of inviting Ukraine to NATO suddenly appears. However, I do not think that this invitation will be "free", said the Prime Minister of Slovakia.
He emphasized that Slovakia supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and wishes the country a "just peace", but he is not sure whether it is possible to achieve it in this situation. Fico said he would support any peace plan presented to "resolve the conflict" in Ukraine. According to him, "we must forget that the Russians will leave Crimea and other territories of Ukraine, but he emphasized that "the conflict has no military solution."
In addition, Fico said that Slovakia continues to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and also expects cooperation in the import of oil and gas to Slovakia.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 7, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that Slovakia supports Ukraine's membership in the European Union "without any conditions."
Also on October 7, Fico emphasized that Slovakia will participate in any form of peace initiative to end the military conflict in Ukraine.
On October 3, Fico stated that he would like to restore normal relations with the aggressor country russia after the end of the full-scale war in Ukraine.
