Natural gas reserves in UGS and coal in warehouses enough to get through winter - Shmyhal

As of October 15, natural gas reserves in underground natural gas storage (UGS) facilities are 12.3 billion cubic meters, with 3.1 million tons of coal accumulated in warehouses.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during the government meeting on Tuesday, October 15, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"This is enough to get through the winter. I would like to remind you that this heating season, like the last one, we plan to use gas of our own production," he emphasized.

Shmyhal added that all nine power units of the nuclear power plant controlled by Ukraine are currently operating.

"It is they who will provide the main volume of electricity generation in the heating season," he said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Naftogaz of Ukraine national joint-stock company plans to accumulate 13 billion cubic meters of natural gas in UGS facilities until the heating season of 2024/2025.

On April 1, Ukraine completed the 2023/2024 heating season and began the season of natural gas injection into UGS facilities.

During the 2023/2024 heating season, Ukraine used 6.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas from UGS facilities.
