Zelenskyy comments on AFU withdrawal from Vuhledar in Donetsk Region

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a statement regarding the withdrawal of units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine from the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk Region, which, as a result of recent battles, came under the control of the russian occupiers.

His statement was made at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, RBC-Ukraine reports.

According to him, without sufficient help from Western partners, the Ukrainian army is not able to stop the russians, who, in turn, will use all the weapons available to them.

Constant shelling, missile and air strikes are destroying the positions of the Ukrainian military, so they are no longer able to defend themselves.

"It is very right that they leave and can preserve themselves. These are absolutely the right steps," Zelenskyy commented on the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Vuhledar.

The president added that this is why Ukraine is so persistently asking to be given the opportunity to strike deep into russian territory.

Without lifting the restrictions, Zelenskyy emphasized, one of the ways to stop the advance of the russian army is to strengthen Ukraine.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 2, the Defense Forces of Ukraine officially announced that units of the Ukrainian army had left Vuhledar and moved to other positions in order to save the lives of personnel.

As analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) previously reported, the russians likely established full control of Vuhledar last Tuesday, October 1.

We will remind you that in the last days of September, the military said that the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Vuhledar were under attack by the russians from three sides at once.
