Russian army likely seized Vuhledar - ISW

The russian army likely seized Vuhledar on October 1 after the retreat of Ukrainian troops. However, it is still unclear whether the russians will be able to quickly advance beyond the town.

According to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), geolocation images from September 30 and October 1 show russian troops erecting their flags and moving freely in various parts of Vuhledar. Russian bloggers also claimed that the russians took full control of the town on October 1.

One of the Ukrainian military said that on October 1, some units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a planned withdrawal from Vuhledar to avoid encirclement. Russian sources reported that Ukrainian forces began retreating at the end of September 30.

According to their data, the russian forces were unable to completely block the exit routes for the Ukrainian troops, although russian artillery and drones caused losses during the retreat.

ISW notes that there are no accurate data on the scale of the Ukrainian side's losses yet. However, numerous reports of a retreat indicate that Ukrainian troops have avoided an encirclement that could have resulted in significant casualties.

In addition, russian sources report the further advance of russian forces to the west of Vodiane, which is northeast of Vuhledar.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, as of September 30, the military reported that the town of Vuhledar in the Donetsk Region is surrounded by russians on three sides, and the situation there is extremely difficult.

British intelligence also confirmed the information.
