The Defense Forces of Ukraine withdrew from Vuhledar in the Donetsk Region in order to preserve the lives of soldiers and military equipment.
This was reported in Telegram by the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Troops Group (OSTG).
"In an effort to take control of the town at any cost, it managed to direct reserves to carry out flanking strikes, which exhausted the defense of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As a result of the enemy's actions, the threat of encircling the town arose," the message said.
In order to preserve the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and equipment, the command gave permission for the withdrawal of forces from Vuhledar.

According to ISW reports, the russian army likely seized Vuhledar on October 1 after the retreat of Ukrainian forces. However, it is still unclear whether the russians will be able to quickly advance beyond the town.
As of September 30, the military reported that the town of Vuhledar in the Donetsk Region is surrounded by russians on three sides, and the situation there is extremely difficult.
