Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has said that Warsaw is obliged to shoot down russian missiles in the sky over Ukraine without waiting for them to fly into Polish airspace.
He made the corresponding statement in an interview with the British media Financial Times, European Pravda reports.
According to Sikorsky, Poland must ensure the safety of its citizens by intercepting missiles that may fly into the country's territory.
He believes that Warsaw needs to ignore fears that the destruction of russian missiles over Ukraine could lead to a conflict between russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Sikorsky called on other European countries bordering Ukraine to also destroy russian missiles before they enter their airspace.
"Membership in NATO does not cancel the responsibility of each country for the protection of its own airspace — this is our own constitutional duty," Sikorsky emphasized.
Sikorsky called the destruction of russian missiles outside Polish airspace as legitimate self-defense.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of August 25-26, a russian kamikaze drone flew into Polish airspace. The Polish military did not shoot it down allegedly due to weather conditions.
Recall that on August 28, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Warsaw will not shoot down russian drones if they fly into its territory.
Later, the Ministry of Defense of Poland refused to shoot down russian missiles and drones over the territory of Ukraine.
