NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg hopes that Ukraine will join the Alliance within the next decade.
He told about this in an interview with the DPA agency, Bild reports.
Stoltenberg was asked about the possible expansion of the Alliance in the next ten years.
"I really hope that Ukraine will become an ally," said Stoltenberg, who is leaving the post of Secretary General in the fall.
Shortly before the NATO summit in Washington, Stoltenberg also called for even more military aid to Ukraine.
"The stronger our support, the sooner this war can end... The more we commit ourselves in the long term, the sooner the war can end," he said.
Recall that the U.S. Department of State announced that at the NATO summit in Washington next week Ukraine will be offered "concrete ways" to speed up its future membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
Earlier, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden said that Ukraine must win the war in order to join NATO.
