Court refuses to cancel absentee arrest of MP Dubnevych

The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has refused to cancel the absentee arrest of the wanted Member of the Verkhovna Rada Yaroslav Dubnevych.

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SACPO) has announced this, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

On January 29, the HACC Appeals Chamber supported the position of the SACPO prosecutor and refused to satisfy the appeal of the defense party to the decision of the HACC of November 13, 2023 to select a preventive measure in the form of detention of a sitting MP who is suspected of organizing the seizure of state property (natural gas) in the amount of more than UAH 2.1 billion and legalization of illegally received profits.

After the suspect is detained and delivered to the place of pre-trial investigation, the investigating judge will decide on the application of this preventive measure.

On November 2, a panel of the HACC judges granted the application of the SACPO prosecutor and put him on the international wanted list.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, MP Yaroslav Dubnevych who was put on the international wanted list left Ukraine for Romania.

The court arrested MP Dubnevych, but in absentia. Dubnevych fled abroad, so he was put on the international wanted list.
