The Verkhovna Rada intends to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the moscow Patriarchate (UOC MP).
267 MPs voted for bill 8371 as a basis for the minimum required 226, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to it, the activity of religious organizations that are affiliated with the centers of influence of a religious organization (association), the management center of which is located in a state that carries out armed aggression against Ukraine, is not allowed in Ukraine.
The activities of such religious organizations can be terminated in a court of law based on an administrative claim by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy or the prosecutor.
It is also proposed to allow the Ministry of Culture to conduct a religious examination of the activities of religious organizations in order to identify subordination to the aggressor country.
According to the document, the Ministry of Culture will have the right to issue orders to eliminate violations identified as a result of such an examination within a month.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, previously the head of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, in an interview with Radio Svoboda, expressed doubt that the necessary 226 votes would be found in the parliament to ban the activities of the UOC (MP), if the relevant bills are put to the vote.
In January 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers proposed to the Verkhovna Rada to ban the activities of religious organizations affiliated with the russian Orthodox Church (ROC) in Ukraine (bill 8371).
