Volume of issued mortgage loans increased by 2.6% to UAH 900 million, and number by 3.6% to 626 in August

Ukrainian banks in August 2023 issued 626 mortgages totaling UAH 900.9 million.

The National Bank of Ukraine has said this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

In August, the volume of loans provided to the population compared to July increased by 2.6%, the number - by 3.6%.

Preferential lending within the framework of the eOselia program traditionally remains the driver of the mortgage segment.

In August, 5 banks informed about the issuance of a new mortgage, which mainly credited the purchase of housing in the secondary real estate market.

The weighted average effective mortgage rate in August grew to 8% from 7.9% in July.

In the regional context, the largest number of mortgage loans in August was issued in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region - 270 contracts were concluded for a total amount of UAH 443.9 million (49.3% of the total); Chernihiv Region (41 contracts for UAH 52.5 million), Vinnytsia Region (35 contracts for UAH 51.1 million) and Rivne Region (40 contracts for UAH 50.9 million).

In a September 2023 survey, 26 banks provided responses with a 95% share of the gross mortgage portfolio at the end of 2021.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukrainian banks in June 2023 issued 527 mortgages totaling UAH 754.1 million.

In 2022, the number of mortgages fell by 5.3 times to 2,009, with 2/3 of the loans issued before the outbreak of the pandemic.

Banks in 2022 issued 2,009 mortgages totaling UAH 1.96 billion.
