PGO Launches Investigation Into UIA Plane's Crash In Iran

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has launched an investigation into the crash of the plane of Kyiv-based Ukraine International Airlines air company in Teheran (the Islamic Republic of Iran).

Ukrainian News agency learnt this from the Office of Prosecutor General (OPG).

The case was opened under Section 3 of Article 276 of the Penal Code of Ukraine (violation of aircraft operation rules).

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Iran are discussing a possibility of sending two planes to return bodies of Ukrainian citizens killed in the January 8 crash of a plane of Kyiv-based Ukraine International Airlines air company in Teheran (Iran).

The planes are provided by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU).

The incident took lives of 82 citizens of Iran; 63 citizens of Canada; 11 citizens of Ukraine (two passengers and nine crewmembers); 10 citizens of Sweden; three citizens of Germany; and three citizens of Britain.

Kyiv-based Ukraine International Airlines air company states that a mistake of the crew is unlikely as a reason for the UIA plane's crash near Teheran (the Islamic Republic of Iran) on January 8.

Sosnovskyi noted that the crew had sufficient experience in conducting such flights, in particular, the captain had 11,600 flight hours.

An Iranian-based commission is determining the reasons for the crash of the plane of Kyiv-based Ukraine International Airlines air company near Teheran, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine is abstaining from making any conclusions before all circumstances are clarified.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka to launch an investigation into the crash of the Kyiv-based Ukraine International Airlines air company’s plane near Teheran (the Islamic Republic of Iran).
