U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson Appoints Volker Special Representative To Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has appointed Kurt Volker to serve as a special representative to Ukraine.

Reuters agency said this citing the U.S. State Department's announcement of Friday, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Reuters agency reports citing Robert Hammond, a communications adviser for Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, that Kurt Volker will be coordinating the efforts of the U.S. State Department on resolving the conflict, which emerged after the invasion of Russia in Crimea and then in eastern Ukraine.

Volker, who is 55 now, was a career diplomat who served as permanent representative to NATO in 2008-2009.

Kurt Volker is currently a foreign policy and national security expert at the McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called for active involvement of the United States in the work of the Trilateral Contact Group on resolution of the conflict in Donbas (Ukraine, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and Russia).
