Ukraine is experiencing an acute shortage of missiles for air defense systems needed to repel russian ballistic attacks, and one of the reasons for this, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the change in US priorities due to the situation in the Middle East.
The head of state stated this in an interview with Sky News, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to the President, one of the main tasks of the Ukrainian authorities now remains negotiations with the US, President Donald Trump and other partners on the continuation of military assistance, financing and strengthening of sanctions against russia.
Zelenskyy stressed that the issue of air defense remains critically important, as russia is increasingly using ballistic missiles to strike Ukrainian cities. As an example, he cited the massive attack on Kyiv, when, according to him, about 40 ballistic missiles were launched within one hour.
"We don't have enough missiles for defense, that's a problem. There are not enough sanctions against russian military production - they can increase the production of ballistic missiles, so we need air defense as soon as possible," the President said.
At the same time, Zelenskyy said that the situation in the Middle East also affected Ukraine's provision of air defense.
"Now I understand the roots of the problem. I understand that the relations between the United States and the countries of the Middle East, and I understand that the States are focused on the Middle East, but because of this we have this challenge, and it is a big problem for us," the head of state noted.
The President added that Ukraine is working to resolve this issue together with European partners, the United States and other allies, calling air defense provision one of the biggest challenges for the country.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 16, the russians launched their sixth ballistic missile attack on Kyiv in a month; To stop russian terror, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on allies to accelerate the supply of interceptor missiles to air defense systems.
